Red Sox DFA Raimel Tapia, Activate Christian Arroyo
The Red Sox have reportedly DFA’d veteran outfielder Raimel Tapia. Tapia hit a solid .264 with 10 RBIs, 6 stolen bases, and a single home run. Tapia’s DFA makes room for utility infielder Christian Arroyo on the 26 man roster.
The move definitely comes as a surprise, both in terms of how quickly Arroyo is being activated, as well as Tapia being the cut instead of Jarren Duran or Enmanuel Valdez.
Getting rid of Tapia over Duran or Valdez is a sign that, for better or worse, the Red Sox are giving their younger players a vote of confidence, or alternatively they plan on demoting them when they activate Adam Duvall, Yu Chang, or farther down the road Trevor Story.
Arroyo’s return from the IL is definitely welcome, as the Red Sox have seemed to need some more defensive stability in their infield, particularly at shortstop, as of late.
